July 26 LWH insulation

The LWH was insulated today, drywalling will be done tomorrow.

Met with another company for a flooring quote. It looks like we'll be going with glued-down engineered hardwood in the house, vinyl planking in the basement suite and laminate flooring in the LWH. We've also started looking for countertop suppliers and fabricators - we're using quartz countertops in the kitchens and for the bathroom vanities.

Pocket door to LWH bathroom. LWH insulation will start tomorrow, drywalling on Friday.

July 19-20 Scratch coat & taping

The first layer of scratch coat applied to three quarters of the house.

Taping of wall edges by the drywaller started on the main floor on Friday. We're now getting quotes for engineered hardwood. It's going to be expensive. Will have to consider laminate vs vinyl planking for the basement and LWH, both for price and durability (water resistance, wear and tear, slip-resistance). Spent Saturday afternoon cleaning up the drywall dust on the main floor - it's dusty! Will clean up the basement and 2nd floor today.

July 17 Some decorative work

Cedar planks installed in verandah roof and entry gable. They'll be stained with natural stain.

Trim in the gables.

The drywaller was busy taping the whole house. He'll start in the LWH early next week. Today I'll be getting paint samples and finalizing accent tiles.

July 16 LWH electrical

Last Saturday the wiring for security and data ports was done, electrical done today. Potlights and switches installed. The inspector also came by and there are a few deficiencies in the framing to be fixed (missing bolts, additional reinforcing boards, nuts, etc).

We went to yet another tile store to look for accent tiles. We liked this one for the kitchen, but at $50/sf, we won't be choosing it! Engineered hardwood floor at far left, cabinet sample, white subway tile that will be used in all the kitchens.
We like this one for the ensuite bathroom, $29.99 sf. The light grey tile will be used on the ensuite and LWH bathroom walls, with a dark grey on the floors.
